Eastlake Male Youth Initiative Honors Class of 2020 with Virtual Commencement and Awards Ceremony


The 2019-2020 Eastlake Male Youth Initiative recently celebrated its commencement and awards ceremony.

Atlanta, GA, June 13, 2020 — Eastlake Male Youth Initiative celebrated the inaugural Class of 2020 with its first Commencement and Awards Ceremony. The event was hosted live on the Zoom video conferencing platform.

The event included opening remarks by Program Director Dr. Kenneth G. Torrence, Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr., Senior Pastor of The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, as well as San Antonio, Texas businessman Mr. Byron E. Miller as the keynote speaker. "A true leader is someone who earns respect ... <and> inspires those to follow his footsteps and becomes the guiding light for humanity," said Miller.


With an audience of students, parents, ambassadors, mentors, staff, and supporters, viewers watched an inspirational video highlighting EMYI's incredible journey.


Dr. Torrence read the names of the 21 students who completed the program. He also recognized the 7 students who completed the Community Service 3-Day Challenge. Dr. Torrence also announced the recipients of the A.P. Torrence Outstanding Achievement Award and Distinguished Service Award. The awards were presented to the student and student ambassador respectively who exemplified exceptional leadership, participation and service in EMYI.
