Bringing the Eastlake Male Youth Initiative Program Year to a Strong Finish

EMYI 2020 Year in Review
Eastlake Male Youth Initiative 2020 Year in Review

In our immediate community and around the world, the rapid spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) brought sweeping changes to our lives. As a result, some weighty decisions and difficult choices had to be made in order to protect our families, loved ones and livelihoods. Unfortunately the activities and programs planned and sponsored by Eastlake Male Youth Initiative (EMYI) were not immune, necessitating a total restructuring of when and how to accomplish our objectives during what became the "new normal." In spite of these changes, we have done our best to bring about programs and interaction that positively impacts our students and prepares them for leadership in a rapidly changing world. As Program Director for EMYI, I feel unequivocally that we have been true to our mission and objectives of empowering African American males and raising their trajectory of achievement.

In June, we will bring the 2019-2020 Eastlake Male Youth Initiative program to a close. For the protection of our students and staff, the remaining events will continue to be hosted on the Zoom video conferencing platform. Here is what you can expect as we wrap up the program year:

On Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Romeo Stockett, past president of the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, will present the topic: Community Service: Giving Back While Enhancing Your Future. We will distribute links to view this event on Zoom, and they will be posted on thetruthteller.org website home page.

Eastlake Male Youth Initiative will celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2020 with our first annual Commencement and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. EMYI students, ambassadors, staff, mentors, family, friends, and supporters are invited to join our first-ever digital festivities. We will distribute links to view this event on Zoom, and they will be posted on thetruthteller.org website home page.
